The Escapement: Egyptian Exodus

Want to get sand between your toes without a day at the beach? Get yourselves down to The Escapement in Margate and… Walk like an Egyptian

The Escapement

  • Location: Margate
  • Players: 2 to 6
  • We played: October 2018 as a team of 2

Great things about Egyptian Exodus

  • This was one room where we were blown away by its look and feel as soon as we walked through the door. Egyptian Exodus uses a small space, but provides a multi-sensory wow.
  • This room has a few examples of layered, multi-step puzzles which took a little time to solve and gave us a tasty rush of satisfaction when we finally got there.
  • Egyptian Exodus doesn’t use incongruous padlocks. When there was a lock with a key, it still fitted the set-up, while most of the unlockable parts of the room were cleverly automated.
  • The clues to each puzzle were delivered in a way that made sense with the game’s premise and story, and made us laugh as well.
  • We were greeted and looked after by a lovely host who not only enthusiastically introduced the room, but also took time after the game to walk us through how every part worked.
  • We found the whole experience at The Escapement really fun – they made us feel like Indiana Jones, complete with wide-brimmed fedora.

On the other hand…

  • The mostly linear structure of Egyptian Exodus means that with a bigger team of five or six players, you would have to work on most parts all together. We think you’d still have fun, but it would be a less challenging experience.
  • We found the ending slightly weaker than the rest of the game. It wasn’t exactly an anti-climax, but more could be made of this final moment.

Who should try this room?

Whether you’re an aspiring Lara Croft or not, if you’re looking for a high-quality and fun escape experience you’ll enjoy this room.
