Escape Plan: Roll out the Barrel

War is over! We set out to steal the Air Commodores’ supply of beer and have our own celebration in this VE Day adventure from Escape Plan.

Escape Plan

  • Location: Shoreditch (nearest station Shoreditch High Street Overground)
  • Players: 3 – 6
  • We played: January 2020 as a team of 4

Great things about Roll out the Barrel

  • The puzzle design in Roll out the Barrel is neat and clever, keeping players working hard to solve the challenges while reducing the likelihood of them barking up the wrong tree. The tasks are varied, and the custom-built equipment is technically impressive and works a treat. There are no red herrings or loose ends; in this room, everything falls into place both literally and figuratively speaking.
  • We loved the theming, which was a more light-hearted variation on Escape Plan’s usual Second World War setting. Every functional object, piece of décor and element of the soundtrack contributed to a cohesive, immersive environment.
  • A multi-linear room, Roll out the Barrel has plenty of enjoyable content, organised in such a way that kept our team of four experienced escapists busy and challenged.
  • Our host gave us a friendly and snappy introduction to the room that helped to set the scene and, although we didn’t often need help, was on hand to give a careful nudge in the right direction when we did.

On the other hand…

  • There was really nothing we didn’t like about Roll out the Barrel. While it wasn’t one of the very few escape rooms that have totally blown us away, it’s an excellent room and we enjoyed the experience from start to finish.

Who should try this room?

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Roll out the Barrel to any group. While it’s playable by up to 6 players, it’s probably best for a group of 3-4, and although beginners would certainly enjoy it they might prefer to play one of Escape Plan’s other adventures first.
